Can the New 2019 Base Macbook Pro Edit 4K!

Hey, guys Max the day we’re going to take a look at the new 2019 mac pro and see how it performs in video editing now, I have to say that this thing is an absolute beast. The build quality is fantastic.

I love the design. It is incredibly silent, shockingly silent, and even the case that it comes in the box with like 30 pounds for the sporty pound machine.

I need apple to do a great job now. It is also incredibly expensive, not saying it’s worth it to a particular group of people.

I think it is, but there’s a lot of other options that we’re going to see for a different article so today. Going to focus on final cut pro because I think a lot of people will buy the system for a final cut that’s a mac OS exclusive, of course.

Some of you guys are going to use premiere or damage results, but I want to get this initial article out there as soon as possible. I know you guys are excited.

You guys want to see how it does and my full in-depth test we’re going to look at the pictures all premiere pro and final cut a lot of different codecs and make some comparisons.

That’s going to be out shortly in the future that does take multiple days of testing in the shooting and editing, so make sure you guys are subscribed because don’t miss out on that article.

I have a lot of great info for you guys now we also did a video taken a look at the thermal performance and a ton of different benchmarks 3 D.

Animation graphics performance some gaming type stuff that’s over on the Max said channel I’ll leave a link down in the description there are some exciting things in a couple of ways that. The system stands out apart from like other workstation computers, so let’s jump right in and talk about the configuration here.

I already did a video on what configs I recommend for most people you guys can check that out, but I have the 12 core model at 3.3 gigahertz.

This has 48 gigabytes of ram in this house read the radio pro Vega 2 graphics card with 32 gigabytes of HBM 2 memory, and that’s what’s going to be very important for video editing now I also have the afterburner card in the system that’s going to able decoding of.

Programs and programs Russell we’re going to put that to the test today as well that’s the option that I don’t know how much people need to spend if you work a lot person maybe, but we shall see and the 1 test I don’t want to run for you guys a black magic rock crew is the black magic recipe.

Test here we could see right away we’re running EKG decoding it out 114 frames per second and that’s getting close about four streams of Multicam 8 K., and if we take a look at 4 K., We have 400 and 59 frames per second, so that’s close to 20 streams of 4 K.

Multi camp black magic rock I want to give you guys a reference point of performance for the system even though I don’t want to get into benchmarks as far as CPU performance.

This thing is getting about 50 to 55 percent more CPU performance then R. I. mac pro, which has an eight-core the CPU clock speed, is also running higher, which is excellent and as far as graphics in geekbench fives metal square.

This type of simple video but now it’s good to see these new graphics cards you’re no longer slower at exporting even if you could edit faster now let’s do a similar test with H. I. 265 HEVC this will use the T. 2 chip that’s inside the system and just as I expected.

The time is the same as the iMac pro because they’re both using the same T. 2 chip, and the rest of the components have no issues with this footage. Now let’s jump into its head bit H. D. is playing this back.

There are no issues whatsoever everything’s perfectly smooth I have a couple of lots here were still at 4 percent CPU 8 percent GPU not back to 2 percent CPU no issues at all whatsoever.

But the issue that people are having is when you’re trying to export this because with the previous machines, there’s no acceleration for the exporting has.

To be CPU only took forever the new graphics card in the new MacBook pros 60-inch ones in this system have a 10 bit it colder I don’t know if I look at is using it yet it might still be software so let’s take a look all right, so that’s 35 minutes.

Which is a long time for a 5-minute project that is not an issue with the system at all it’s an issue with a final cut at the I’m not project X. 45 minutes so we do see some improvement there but this system it was even using half of the C. P. U.

Ultimately we need for Apple to release a version 15 of the final cut for HDR HEVC 10 bit exporting with the graphics card because a project like this should take somewhere between 2 to 3 minutes to ship now let’s get into with the harder tougher stuff here.

I have 4 K. 60 frames per second footage from the canon C. 200 this is raw footage some corrections applied I have a lot of play here as I expected and as it should for this amount of money.

It is playing back perfectly smoothly the graphics card is running at 67 percent the CPUs running at 27 percent, so no issues whatsoever playing this back on other system say like. The mac pro would Max out the graphics card if you add more corrections in a fax in titles in this you will get.

Some choppiness some stuttering it’s Max out at 60 FPS was here you should be able to do multi-cam 2430 FPS C. 200 Rossi 3 streams of it exciting, so we’re exporting this, and I’m used to seeing the CPU the graphics card be maxed out with this footage in here.

We’ll take a look at that a little bit more in my full detailed video and now seek a look at red rock this is 4.5 Kate playing it back perfectly smoothly CPUs at 76 percent right now 58 drops down the jeep you kicked up to help out now so bounce that out 25 percent on the graphics no issues what so ever.

Now I do want to say once again that Apple will release and dread new metal API, so it’s going to use less of the Cebu more than the graphics, but even without that display, that is just fine. Let’s go ahead export this okay we have 3 minutes and 40 seconds 4 of 5 minutes project 4.5 K.

Run exporting higher than 4 K. almost twice as fast as the iMac pro not bad at all it will be even faster because of the crazy graphics card in the system I guess we should test out some programs rock so let me get my hard drive it will plug it in here we have a 4 K.

One hundred twenty frames per second prover as raw from the FS 5 mark to recorded to an Atomos inferno this is slow down here you guys see the slow-motion this is what the color grading with corrections applied I have a lot of pride in my CPU is at 2 percent that I mean this.

Not doing anything at all other than running mac OS because it doesn’t go below that I think it all that’s because the afterburner card in the system is doing all of this processing our graphics card is only at 8 percent.

It all has to do is take the color correction and the lot that’s applied and just added to the footage once that’s done no issues whatsoever here let’s go.

We tested out because the CD is already so dominant in the system, and programs rise so efficiently with the final cut you might not need. You might have enough horsepower even with the 12 core, possibly even eight courts, which also leaves.

The twelfth okay, so the renders about halfway were done here, and we’re ready almost on a minute 45 seconds. The afterburner cart is helping it took 2 minutes, and 52 seconds that is fascinating interesting. Hence, I guess I’ll have to do a lot more testing on the afterburner card different plea back enough to for.

Fines of 8 K. ProRes raw footage if you guys have some, please let me know in the comments section that way I can test it out with that and to give you guys a better verdict on if it’s worth it or if it’s not, so that is it, guys.

Let me know your thoughts down in the comments section below what they got to point out: this thing was completely silent the whole time. I literally cannot hear it unless my ears like an inch away, and even then, it’s so subtle quiet it is shocking.

We pushed it in our other article Max if you sell it to the limits, we Max out the CPU and the GPU at the same time for an extended period.

I’ll just let you watch that article at the link is down below, so thanks again to the micro center for making this content possible make sure.

You guys click above right over there to see more videos on the mac pro, including testing different graphics cards.

We can add yourself to see if it’s worth paying for that pricey workstation graphics card the radion Vega too that’s inside of here thanks for watching some backs, and I’ll see you in the next article.
